Mullins management control model

In his management control model, Mullins identifies five key elements managers need to deal with sequentially:

  1. plan the objectives and targets for their organization.
  2. establish standards and ways of measuring performance
  3. over a period of time, monitor performance
  4. compare your planned targets with what has been achieved.
  5. Where the results have deviated from the desired objectives, set about rectifying this and taking corrective action.

Both as Ts and managers we can’t set targets for everything. And in some situations, our objectives are imposed upon us, for example, when we have to comply with government regulations.
